ROUND 2 WRAP

-

Drysdale 264 v Anglesea 1-7

Drysdale holds the upper hand going into day two after making 264 against Anglesea. The Hawks scored their runs quickly and were even able to have a late crack at the Anglesea openers late in the day, claiming a precious wicket to further cement their position. Openers Jason Malcolm and Kane Taylor compiled half centuries while Wade Arnott (32), Ron Pellion (41) and Robbie Cutajar (31 not out) finished off the innings nicely, although a golden opportunity for a massive score went begging with the last four batsmen all making ducks.

Barwon Heads v Jan Juc 2-93

Jan Juc was well placed for a big score at Barwon Heads before the rain set in and ruined the rest of the day’s play. Ben Smiljavic and Iva Priest put on a half-century opening partnership, but left-arm wrist spinner Sam Schaller removed both openers quickly before Craig Lucas and Iain Lygo safely took the score to 2-93 before play was called off.

Portarlington v Queenscliff 244

Queenscliff took advantage of winning the toss and amassed 244 against Portarlington. Toby Smith (65) and Tom Hall (41) combined for an 86-run third wicket partnership and Brent Hayward (41) added some late-order lustre to the innings. Ash Gillett’s medium pacers netted him a well-deserved four-wicket haul for the Demons.

Ocean Grove v Collendina

Ocean Grove had the better of Collendina, but because less than 25 overs were bowled, the game will revert to a one-dayer next week. The Grubbers were well on top when rain halted play with Collendina 3-30 from 24 overs and only one over away from complete disaster.
