Get fit and fed for free

- PETER BEGG

GET on your bike and ride into town for a free breakfast today for Ride2Work Day.

Join thousands of riders across the nation for Australia’s biggest cycling event, with council offering a free breakfast and great prizes for Geelong cyclists who have registered.

Some of the region’s favourite cafes, including the Black Sheep Cafe, Dish, Cravings, The Edge, Papa Mios, Ebony & Ivory and Prendergast and Grace, are involved with the event, offering breakfast upon redemption of event vouchers. Riders can collect their breakfast vouchers from Gore Place Laneway, between the TAC and Fuel Cafe, from 7am-9am today.

Council CEO Stephen Griffin encouraged workers in Geelong to get behind the great program.

‘‘Ride2Work Day is a great opportunity to give cycling a go – you might be surprised just how easy it is to get to work on your bike,’’ he said.

‘‘Geelong is a cyclefriendly city and we want to encourage more and more people to get on their bikes and reap the benefits cycling brings.’’

Ride2Work Day has caused an increase in people choosing to ride to work, with 38 per cent of new riders who registered in 2011 still riding to work five months later.
