AD­VO­CATES are hop­ing peo­ple can spare some money to­day to help the home­less se­cure warmth and dig­nity.

A Do­nate a Swag Day dis­play will fea­ture at Mar­ket Square be­tween 11am and 4pm, and will be sup­ported by St Lau­rence Community Ser­vices for peo­ple liv­ing the re­al­ity of sleep­ing rough. The event is a part of An­tiPoverty Week.

Sarah May of St Lau­rence hoped peo­ple might make a dif­fer­ence by help­ing pay for swags for dis­tri­bu­tion.

‘‘The swags are wa­ter and fire-proof, can be hung up to cre­ate a sun and wind block, fea­ture a lock­able chain and ID pocket and fold up to look like an or­di­nary back­pack when not in use,’’ she said.

‘‘ Do­na­tions can be pro­vided in $19.10 lots or $76.40 cov­ers the cost of buy­ing a swag out­right, but any do­na­tion would be ap­pre­ci­ated.’’

Home­less ad­vo­cate Richard Slevin and SalvoCon­nect home­less males net­worker Damien Ber­nasconi are back­ing the day, which will also point to the Salvos’ Novem­ber 10 Walk­ing Home event, which raises money for shoes for home­less peo­ple.

The Do­nate a Swag dis­play will be lo­cated up­stairs in Mar­ket Square.
