Venus in control

VENUS Williams cruised through her first match since the US Open, beating 15-yearold WTA rookie Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-3 6-1 in the first round of the Luxembourg Open. Williams broke her opponent five times, losing her own serve once in the first set. Earlier, Italian top-seeded Roberta Vinci beat an inconsistent Olga Govortsova of Belarus 6-0 2-6 6-0 to reach the second round.
