Classy looks best at Cup

- NATALIE DOROTIC

KEEP it classy. That’s the best tip for a fashionably fun time at Wednesday’s Geelong Cup.

That’s the advice from Westfield Geelong stylist Renee Enright, who has studied the form on trackside trends for ladies (and gents) who are keen to make a statement at the Cup.

Along with ensuring you have a handy supply of adhesive bandages for those too-new-to-be-comfortable shoes, Enright said there was no excuse for a serious fashion faux pas that people saw all too often.

‘‘ Ladies, please do not take off your shoes. This is such a no-no,’’ she said.

‘‘If you wear a comfortable shoe with plenty of support you’re not going to feel the need to walk barefoot with your stilettos tucked under your arm.’’

And when it comes to what’s hot, take it from Enright, who said this season was all about gorgeous bright hues and vivid prints.

‘‘ Floral is also a huge trend this season and perfect for the Spring Racing Carnival, so if bold and bright doesn’t work for you, opt for a splash of colour with a beautiful pastel shoe or fascinator,’’ she said.

This doesn’t mean the fashion focus is just about women, with Enright saying that colour is for everyone.

‘‘Men, jazz up your classic suits with a coloured tie or bow-tie,’’ she said.

‘‘This season we are seeing navy and grey suiting as a nice alternative to the classic black — perfect for the spring-summer season.’’
