Teesdale, well played and in the shade

- LACHLAN YOUNG

TEESDALE Cricket Club will celebrate in style tomorrow when it holds the grand opening of its new deck and shade area.

As an extension of the existing clubrooms, the deck will serve as a viewing space for players and supporters, as well as a place to hide from the sun on hot summer afternoons.

The project was jointly funded by the Bendigo Bank and Bannockburn and District Community Enterprise. It was completed mostly with the help of the town’s numerous volunteers.

‘‘The entire job has brought the Teesdale community really close together,’’ club president James Wishart said.

‘‘ All of the materials have been donated, and anything that could be done to help has been done. It was a massive effort.’’

Wishart said the deck would be a great place for local fans to sit and enjoy their sport.

‘‘ We’re really hopeful that this is going to bring families back here, and these new facilities give the town something to be proud of,’’ he said.

The Roos will complete their Round 2 match against Bell Park before holding the opening, which starts at 6.30pm.

Cost is $10 a person, which includes a roast dinner. Inquiries to Kloe Wood on 5281 1945.
