Chance for stars in Galaxy to shine

- RYAN REYNOLDS

RISING junior stars will get their first chance to shine when Greater Geelong Galaxy takes to the pitch on Sunday.

Galaxy, Geelong’s elite soccer development pathway, will play its first Victorian Champions League games at Stead Park and cap months of planning and trials.

Led by some of Geelong’s top coaches, Galaxy will field teams in all VCL divisions this season.

Chairman Joe Madunic said the players selected in each squad would benefit from specialised coaching.

‘‘A lot of these guys are very well known in local circles, plus we also have some very good coaches who have worked at state Madunic said.

‘‘Certainly the children will be getting a chance to learn from some very knowledgeable coaches.

‘‘( Former international goalkeeper) Joey Didulica will also be there as a specialist goalkeeping coach.’’

He said Galaxy would enhance the chances of

level,’’ players to take their soccer to a higher level.

‘‘Each player has an individual number allocated to them,’’ Madunic said. ‘‘There will be people watching and, if their number is put down a couple of times, they can get invited to train with state squads.

‘‘It means our players will be able to take their soccer as high as possible.’’
