Speedsters nabbed
MORE than 80 speeding motorists have been caught during a controversial covert police operation. Geelong Highway Patrol officers swapped their blue garb for varying shades of camouflage green to weed out dangerous drivers on the Geelong Ring Road.
Yet we can’t walk our streets in safety. Tim, of Geelong
I’m embarrassed to be an Australian. Hiding in the bushes is not about road safety, it’s about revenue. How does “catching” someone make the roads safer? What an absolute disgrace. Swan, of Queensland
If they put up a few sandwich board signs around the area saying: “Hidden speed cameras operating in this area”, you’d have a more effective method of reducing speeding motorists. It would be cheaper too and you wouldn’t need to have a couple of cops sitting in the bushes all day. Ash, of Geelong
What a waste of time, effort and resources. Daniel, of Australia
What an amazing lack of insight by the Traffic Management Unit. At a time when Geelong is screaming out for a more visible police presence, the TMU undermines their colleagues by bragging about an undercover traffic op. Wow. Great leadership in Geelong. Susie Q, of Lara
How pathetic. Perhaps
if they stopped reducing speed limits, there wouldn’t be so many “dangerous” drivers. Corbachov, of Ocean Grove
I thought you had a right to look at the speed result on the radar gun. Grumpy, of Victoria
To quote police Supt Clifton ( GA, 28/1) with regards to the community wishes for more foot patrols in the mall. “Sometimes it will be a waste of resources and we could use them better somewhere else.’’ Enough said
We might as well do what they did with the mobile speed cameras — contract the spy job to civilians to measure speed and contact the boys down the road. Trev, of Torquay
“The locals know the issues associated with it.” Yeah, the speed limit is too low. It’s time we raised it to 110km/h. Daniel
Nearly as much of a waste of money as the helicopter speed radar detector they used on the Great Ocean Road. Good work boys — bleed every last cent out of this struggling town. Peterpiper
How about cardboard cutout police cars positioned along known speed spots (so that) motorists automatically check their speed and slow if a cop car is seen. Lin, of Highly Visible
This is fantastic news. That stretch of road is without doubt the most dangerous road in the region. Sean, of Highton
