Peeping Tom takes photos from change room toilet
A LEOPOLD man used his mobile phone to spy on young girls in a swimming centre change room because he was curious about what he would see, a court has heard.
Geelong court was told Thomas Kulic had once overheard a conversation about people spying on each other in the bathroom and wanted to see what they got out of it.
Kulic, 23, of Mandlay Close, pleaded guilty in a Geelong court yesterday to two charges of upskirting.
Police prosecutor, Leading Senior Constable Ian Kerin, said that on September 28 last year a 16-year-old girl entered the women’s change room at Splashdown swimming centre after using the gym.
“While getting changed she saw Kulic in a toilet cubicle and he appeared to be taking pictures of her with his mobile phone under the wall,” SenConstable Kerin said.
“The victim went home and told her father who reported the matter to swimming centre staff. A check of the centre’s CCTV found it was Kulic, a member at the centre.”
The prosecutor said that on October 7, a 13-year-old girl left the pool and went in to the change room to get dressed.
“The toilet door was closed and she could see a male crouching down with a phone watching her,” Sen-Constable Kerin said. “She reported the matter to centre staff and was able to identify Kulic from CCTV footage.”
Kulic was interviewed by police at his home.
“He told police he went into the girls’ change room because he was curious about what he would see,” Sen-Constable Kerin said. “He said he once overheard a conversation about people spying on each other in the bathroom and was curious to see what they got out of it.”
Kulic was placed on a 12month community corrections order without conviction, ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid community work and undergo assessment and treatment for alcohol and drug issues.
