Training provider honoured for work
NOT- FOR- PROFIT training provider Community Veracity has been recognised for its work with offenders.
It was awarded Corrections Victoria’s Community Partnership Award for best provider in the Barwon South West region for 2014.
Jan Noblett and Bill Bethune, from Corrections Victoria, presented the award to directors Robert Dejanovic and Adam Alsop at Community Veracity’s South Geelong office.
Community Veracity, in partnership with Corrections Victoria, provides programs for offenders, allowing them to work off fines.
The programs provide nationally recognised training and are carried out in groups, encouraging communication and teamwork skills.
Two programs, recycling and cookery are on offer.
In recycling, participants train for a Certificate III in warehousing while recycling items previously sent to land fill.
In Food for all Baking, participants train for a Certificate III in commercial cookery, with food items distributed to charities and community groups.
Director Adam Alsop said his organisation was always researching new programs to offer Corrections Victoria and other community groups.
“We aim for our program to benefit both the participants as well as the local communities,’’ he said.
Fellow director Robert Dejanovic said that, in partnership with Recognised Training Organisation AGB Human Resources, CV could offer participants more than just working off their fine.
“They are also able to work towards achieving a qualification,’’ he said.
CV has been operating in the Geelong region since 2010.
