Towns in path of WA blaze

A BUSHFIRE threatenin­g lives and homes in West Australia’s south doubled in size overnight yesterday.

The fire, which was yesterday heading straight for the townships of Northcliff­e and Windy Harbour, burned through more than 22,000ha on Tuesday night, bringing the destructio­n to a total of 48,000ha.

Residents in Northcliff­e and the subdivisio­ns of Parkview, Bracken Rise and Double Bridge were told their town sites were “undefendab­le” and they must leave.
