Horrific hand injury rocks INXS guitarist
INXS guitarist Tim Farriss, pictured, may never be able to play his instrument professionally again after a horrific hand injury on a boat.
The much-loved musician had his left hand mangled and ring finger severed by an electric anchor winch while working on a boat near his home in Fairlight, on Sydney’s northern beaches, over the Australia Day weekend.
Farriss underwent two operations, including emergency microsurgery at the Royal North Shore hospital last week and the finger was reattached after a six-hour operation.
The 57-year-old musician revealed his shocking accident in an email to his bandmates and manager Chris Murphy last weekend after spending a week in hospital.
“It was horrific,” Farriss told his brothers Andrew and Jon, Garry Gary Beers and Kirk Pengilly.
Farriss is expected to undergo intensive physiotherapy for at least the next year.
He told his bandmates it would be several months before he will be able to gauge how much movement he will regain in his hand.
