Bomber welcome to be a Cat again

-

TIME heals all wounds.

Many Geelong fans considered two-time premiership coach Mark Thompson’s departure from the Cats in 2010 an act of football treachery.

At the time it hurt that while Thompson was pressuring soon-to-depart superstar Gary Ablett about loyalty he was having his own duplicitous conversations about a return to Essendon where he is a club great. They were heady times. But it was 4½ years ago and we have all moved on — the Cats famously so by winning a flag in 2011 with Chris Scott at the helm.

The inglorious departure will always remain a chapter in the Bomber Thompson story but this city will never forget the earlier reading in that wonderful book.

We remain grateful that in 2007 he guided the Cats to their first flag in 44 years and then repeated that success in 2009.

We hope Bomber accepts the Cats’ invitation to return to the club this year and that he finally gets the salute from the fans that he deserves.
