At last, Cobras make the running

- NICK WADE GCA3

IT has taken all season but Corio Bay’s batsmen have finally held up their end of the deal.

The Cobras have set Winchelsea 261 for victory tomorrow after their top order fired last week to propel them to their highest score of the season.

Bowling has been Corio Bay’s strength this season and coach Ben Strachan will again call on his varied attack to put the clamps on with the ball.

“We’ve finally got something to bowl at,” Strachan said yesterday.

“We’ve been pretty good with the ball this year but as you know cricket is a funny game. Having the score on the board is certainly important but we’re not going to take it lightly.”

The Cobras’ ability with the ball was proved last round when they rolled ladder-lead- er Shelford for 92. But they lost the match outright after their batsmen twice failed to post a meaningful score.

Strachan, who made 85 last week, said the combination of Beau Moreland and Johnnie Knight, along with Daniel McNamara, would again be called on to set the tone.

“Our bowlers have really stood up this year and we’ve had such a good variety,” he said. “We’ve probably got six or seven guys in the side who can bowl if they’re needed.”
