Rockets fired to have the last blast on Emus

- NICK WADE

THE Barwon Rockets have a point to prove in Sunday’s Dowling Shield final against Inner East Emus.

The Rockets received a brutal wake-up call against the Emus’ high-octane batting in round one, losing by 134 runs.

But since then the region’s under-16 representative side has been irresistible, with coach Luke Muller confident his team knows what it takes to turn the tables on the Emus.

“Our boys didn’t like to be beaten like that,” he said. “We were very comfortably beaten in the end. The boys were disappointed with that and you could see that in the way they went about the rest of the week.

“Having chatted with them over the last couple of weeks, they’re all looking forward to another opportunity to play them.”

Jordan Rossi has found his groove after a slow start, scoring back-to-back 80s against quality attacks. The Rockets’ bowling attack packs a punch, and they’re among many teams to adopt the innovative ploy of using spin with the new ball. Sunday’s final is at Schramms Reserve, Doncaster.
