Ledger Geoff’s best bet

- RYAN REYNOLDS

THERE are plenty of words you could use to describe gun Bannockburn trainer Geoff Webster’s day tomorrow.

The man himself has settled on “important”.

Webster will have three star horses contest Group 1 races at Menangle’s Inter Dominian Grand Final meeting.

“It is an important day for us. It’s something to really look forward to,” Webster said.

“You always try to get them into the good races and fortunately we have got three of them up there. Hopefully it turns out to be a good weekend.”

Webster has star pacer Flaming Flutter in the $750,000 feature race.

And while bookies have his colt as a $61 outsider, Webster is confident of a good run with Greg Sugars driving. “He has drawn three in the big one so he will get a nice trip again.

“He will be quite competitive.

“He went super (when running second at Melton last start). He had a good trip and hit the line strongly.”

Franco Ledger will contest the Group 1 $100,000 Bohemia Crystal, while Du Vella ($11) is in the $200,000 Group 1 NSW Oaks. Franco Ledger is rated $2.30 favourite from seven.

Webster said Franco Ledger was his best winning chance.

“He is going well at the moment. We just want a little bit of luck in running,” said Webster, who will also drive Franco Ledger.

“I am sure he will love the big track up there and I am sure he will go well.”

The talented trio made the trek to NSW on Thursday and Webster was confident all would pull up well.

“Franco Ledger has come from New Zealand so he has done a fair bit of travelling,” Webster said.

“Flaming Flutter won in New South Wales as a two year old and he has been back there two or three times. So travelling is no issues for them.”
