Fair crack of the whipped cream

- COURTNEY CRANE

A FAIR to remember left a sweet taste in the mouths of more than 5000 strawberry lovers who flocked to the Bellarine Peninsula yesterday.

Wallington Primary School’s annual Strawberry Fair not only delighted the tastebuds but will also benefit the school’s students, with more than $25,000 in proceeds set to fund a new music program, build a garden and buy new computers.

Principal Leigh McLaren described the Strawberry Fair’s 31st year as a “sensational” success.

“The crowds were up on previous years and the weather was superb,” he said.

Besides feasting on succulent strawberries, visitors enjoyed a family-friendly day that included entertainment by local musicians, market stalls and a petting zoo.

Mr McLaren paid tribute to the “tireless” parent volunteers who helped bring the muchloved annual event to life.

“They’ve worked so hard on this for the past six months,” he said. “It’s been a great team effort.”
