$900k bidding war
A HAMLYN Heights property sold for almost $200,000 above the expected price on Saturday.
Bidding for 58 Sladen St started at $650,000 and after about 80 bids from three different parties, it sold for $902,000.
Selling agent Laurie McGovan, of PRD Nationwide, Geelong, said the house was on the market in the early $700,000s.
“They just kept on bidding and bidding. We were very shocked,” Mr McGovan said.
The property sold to a local builder, but no plans are set in stone just yet.
On a corner block, the 2022sq m property features a two-bedroom house and shedding and is a short walk to shops, schools and community and sporting facilities.
There is potential for redevelopment or for someone to build their dream home.
Across the Barwon River, 22 Dororthy Ave, Belmont, sold for $441,000 under the hammer to a young local couple.
Agent Ray Rounds, of Hayeswinckle Highton, said there had been a lot of interest in the property, resulting in a coffee van at the auction site for the 50-plus crowd.
“The local couple plan on living in it and then in the long term they will look at renovating,” Mr Rounds said.
The 703sq m property features a three-bedroom house and is within walking distance of schools and shops.
Also in Belmont, 27 Digby Ave did not sell at auction, but agent Nathan Ashton, of Gartland Property, Geelong, was confident it would sell soon.
About 15 bids were received, starting at $433,000 and continued to $473,000, when it was passed in.
“Belmont is gathering momentum and there are no signs of it slowing down,” Mr Ashton said.
He also passed in 1/12 Tunbury Court, Highton, on a vendor bid of $380,000 after no live bids were received.
