Centrals book final berth
WERRIBEE Centrals have qualified for another grand final after a controlled and composed win over Thomson in Saturday’s second semi-final.
Centrals led from the start in the 55-37 win, showing teamwork and a work rate of the highest standard, anchored by a full-court defence.
Goal keeper Amanda Wilson was hard to pass and combined well with goal defence Gemma Grimmond to limit Thomson’s shots at goals.
Centrals’ midcourt worked tirelessly to bring the ball forward, allowing Werribee’s goalers space and placement to shoot.
Wilson, Melissa Prismall and Amy Giaini were Centrals’ best.
Thomson showed commendable intent but just couldn’t convert many goals in the first quarter, which set the tone for the game.
The Tigers still had some great passages of play and when they were allowed to play their style of netball, Werribee had few answers.
Thomson’s hopes still live on in next week’s preliminary final, where the Tigers will play Bannockburn.
Bannockburn came out to redeem itself after its loss last week and outpointed North Geelong 61-37 yesterday. The match was highlighted by a strong start from Lauren Ford, who was accurate under the ring.
Bannockburn extended its lead after halftime with the strong combination of Shannon Pietsch and Bridget O’Hallaran.
Maggie Lind, Celeste De Munari and Ford were Bannockburn’s best.
