SecondBite feeds growing need
HUNGER was in focus as leaders launched Feed Geelong’s 2016 campaign yesterday at the new Belmont headquarters of food rescue organisation SecondBite.
The annual October appeal — led by Give Where You Live in partnership with the Geelong Advertiser — raises money in support of the city’s many food relief agencies.
A push will focus on ensuring access to fresh and nutritious foods.
About 40 people attended the launch, including GMHBA and Ford representatives, and organisations including Geelong Food Relief Centre and Christ Church charity meals program.
Give Where You Live chief executive Bill Mithen illuminated hidden and growing concerns, including families who might be earning wages but finding it harder to put meals on tables.
SecondBite chief executive Jim Mullan outlined its mission and declared the warehouse open.
Events will include Brown Paper Bag Day on October 14, which encourages people to donate equivalent of what they would spend on lunch, and a community lunch at Christ Church on October 28.
