India advances at Japan event

- Surfing with ROBBO sport@geelongadvertiser.com.au

SURF Coast surfers Cody and India Robinson have taken the long trip to Japan to surf in the Ichinomiya Chiba Pro, at Japan’s most famous surf beach, Shida Point.

The waves can be good around the beach breaks at Chiba but it has been tough work for the competitors fighting for qualifying series points with very small and inconsistent waves.

Such conditions did not help Cody Robinson, who was eliminated in his Round 1 heat.

It is tough to lose in Round 1 but at least you know your ability is not the reason for being eliminated.

Better luck for India, who advanced through her Round 1 heat and is into Round 2.

The other point of interest is this is the location being suggested for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The event is webcast on worldsurfleague.com and the finals are set for this weekend with increased swells and clean offshore winds forecast which should make for a great finish.

The Japanese surfers will be hard to beat.

There seem to be more high-level Japanese surfers than before and it would appear certain a Japanese surfer will qualify for the elite Championship Tour soon. Four-day surf forecast: After a very ordinary past week, things are looking a lot better in the coming week with increasing swells and good winds throughout the coming four days. Look for great waves everyday through to Sunday and beyond on reefs right along our Surf Coast.
