Bresciano waiting for bug to bite

-

MARK Bresciano says he is “happily detached” from Australian soccer but will not rule out taking a role at an ALeague club if and when his passion for the game reignites.

The Socceroos great retired in 2015 and has kept a low profile since, while many of his “golden generation” teammates have moved towards coaching, administration or media jobs.

Bresciano said he felt “burnt out” at the end of his career and has been enjoying simple family time in Melbourne, moving back to his hometown almost two years ago. But the door for future involvement in the sport remains ever so slightly ajar.

Now 37, he completed a football director’s course in Florence, run by Italy’s football federation, before he returned to Australia.

It could allow him to emulate ex-Socceroo Craig Moore, Brisbane Roar’s football director, who called on Bresciano to help new marquee signing Massimo Mac- carone adjust to his new surroundings.

“I was lucky to get in and happy to finish the course. I’ve got it in my back pocket and if I ever need to do something with a club, I’ve got that experience,” Bresciano said.

“I’m not ready to get back into the game but I’m honestly hoping I get that passion back because even just being here (in Brisbane), seeing them train, talking with my old teammates . . . it’s something I can see myself getting back into.”
