FEELING thirsty but don’t feel like going out for a drink? Why not live in a house with a built-in bar.
The Geelong Advertiser has discovered there are several houses with bars listed for sale across the Geelong region.
From modern and sleek bars to bars with a coastal theme and retro bars with leather trim, there is something to suit everyone’s taste.
Fletchers, Queenscliff agent James Gladman said a house with a bar added value to the property for the right people.
He is selling 9 Old Geelong Rd, Portarlington, for $870,000 to $950,000. It features a pool house with dedicated bar, TV and wood fireplace.
“With the swimming pool next to it, it gives it a bit of wow factor,” he said.
Ocean Grove builder Mark LeMaistre said designing a house with a bar was a really personal thing.
“It comes down to the clients’ preferences of what they are wanting to do and how much they entertain,” Mr LeMaistre said.
“Bars used to be just a unique piece popped in a corner somewhere and didn’t have to look in keeping with the home, now they are designed to complement the rest of the home.”
Mr LeMaistre said the percentage of bars he put in were for about 30 per cent of the homes he built. He said that percentage had not changed over the past 20 years.
“They tend to be a really personal thing, it is not something we put in every house but those who love to entertain look into it,” he said.
One property on the market in Newtown has an impressive bar area with mirror splashback and bold red bar, while a retro house in Leopold has a fully functional bar that features original leather trim, wood panels and mirrored shelves.
