’Disappointed’ club to counsel Tomahawk Last Man Standing: Another rookie could debut

A “DISAPPOINTED” Geelong will sit down with Tom Hawkins to curb the undisciplined onfield behaviour that has led to the spearhead copping another suspension for a jumper punch.

Hawkins was yesterday slapped with a two-game ban by the AFL’s Match Review Panel for his hit on Sydney’s Dane Rampe, while midfield star Mitch Duncan was also offered a one-match ban for striking Tom Papley.

The injury-hit Cats are likely to accept the Hawkins offer, but have left the door open to challenging Duncan’s suspension.

Geelong football manager Steve Hocking last night said he and coach Chris Scott would have talks with an embarrassed Hawkins this week.

“It was something that is disappointing. Tom’s as disappointed as anyone,” Hocking said.

“We will wait until Chris gets back to the club (after being sick). I’ve had a one-on-one conversation with (Hawkins). He’s very remorseful as you would expect.

“We will talk a range of things with him. I think at this point in time, it’s not right now.

“He’s clearly upset by the fact he’s let his teammates down, let the club down.

“We just need to give him a little bit of space over the coming days and make sure at the appropriate time we get to sit down again and work through it.

“It’s pretty clear in this current climate that you can’t do that.”
