Lawson’s fresh for Fiji

-

CURLEWIS golfer Deyen Lawson has hit the refresh button as he prepares for this month’s $1.5 million Fiji International.

Lawson is riding a tidal wave of good form into the event at Natadola Bay, finishing inside the top six at all three of his China Tour events this season.

The rising star returned to Australia after his T5 finish at the White Mountain Open and has spent time up north as he looks to fine-tune his game heading towards Fiji.

“Everything is going OK. I am just getting back into it, the last week or so, working on a few things,” Lawson said.

“I’m pretty cruisy. I’ll keep working on it and hopefully by the time Fiji comes around I’ll be all right.

“I’ve put myself in contention enough now to know there is no reason why (I can’t win in Fiji).

“After that I’ll play the Northern Territory PGA and then I’ll be back up there (China) for six weeks.”

Lawson finished in T24 in last year’s International, 15 shots behind runaway winner Brandt Snedeker.

The wind can pick up at times in Sigatoka, not that it bothers Lawson.

“I haven’t found a course that doesn’t suit my game,” he said. “It can get quite windy there. But being from Geelong if you can't play in the wind you don’t play golf. I think my game, coming from the coast, it sort of suits anywhere, my style of golf.

“It’s just a matter of playing well. Obviously some courses suit me better, but the conditions there, over the last couple of years have really tested guys out.”

The 26-year-old sits fourth on the China Tour’s order of merit and the reward for finishing on top can set up a player’s career.

“I’ve played the first three events well over there,” Lawson said.

“I let go (of a win) in the second one (at Fragrant Hills Beijing Open). It was mine to lose, but that’s just golf.

“If you keep putting yourself in that position you will win soon enough.

“I’ll get exemption from the first round of European Qschool now and if you win the order of merit you get a full European card.”
