SALT THERAPY A LIFE CHANGER
IT’S the all-natural treatment popular with athletes and wellness bloggers across the country but 93-year-old Lloyd Chamberlin is proof the benefits of salt therapy can be enjoyed at any age.
The Geelong resident had struggled with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for several years, before his granddaughter introduced him to the non-invasive therapy.
The on-trend treatment has been around for hundreds of years and was born from the traditional salt caves of Europe, but has made a resurgence in recent years.
Studios use halogenerators to turn medium grain pharmaceutical salt to tiny breathable particles with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that help treat various respiratory and skin conditions.
The concept also aids with sports recovery and is popular with Geelong Cats Patrick Dangerfield and Mark Blicavs and Australian netballer Emily Mannix.
Mr Chamberlin has been visiting East Geelong’s Mind Body Salt twice a day for the past eight weeks with life-changing results.
“I used to live one day at a time, not sure I would wake up the next day, now I can look further ahead,” Mr Chamberlin said.
“The wheezing is gone and the congestion is all broken up. I was coughing through the night in my sleep . . . now that’s all gone, which is a wonderful thing.”
Mind Body Salt, which opened in May, also has a salt room suitable for kids as young as six months old.
