Geelong Advertiser

DROP THESE TWO FROM THE COMMENTARY TEAM

-

NOT that I expect the powers that be at Channel Seven to read the Geelong

Advertiser, despite it being a far superior edition of a daily newspaper than the Melbourne-based productions but should they do so, I have a small request.

Please remove Brian Taylor and Matthew Richardson from the commentary team when calling Geelong games.

In respect to Richardson, any games that may have an influence on his former club Richmond, please assign him to any other game.

His constant praise of Greater Western Sydney players, calls of terrible umpiring decisions when the Cats received a free and downright bias were on display for all to see and hear.

He constantly bagged the Geelong players or claimed they had engaged in acts that should have drawn free kicks to GWS and it was clear he was hoping for Geelong to succumb to the interstate team, which had the potential for his Tigers to finish higher on the ladder.

As far as Brian Taylor goes, or should I say roaming Brian, can he roam off somewhere else please.

I cannot recall just how many times he pushed his agenda of Geelong’s home-ground not being suitable for finals, it made me cry out “Oh Boy! Wowee!” every time he mentioned it.

What these ex-footballers and Melbourne-based media seem to forget, is that Geelong is a regional club, the only one in what is a national game and if it’s good enough for GWS to host finals at their home ground, despite the fact it can only accommodate less than 30,000 people, then it should be equal opportunity for our regional team to receive the same benefit.

How is it reasonable to have the second-placed team play the team below them, at the third team’s home ground?

Many pundits would claim that to be successful in the grand final, you need to play well on that very same ground and of course, that is true.

Geelong has been robbed of playing a first final at home and I can only hope that consecutive games at the MCG will reap the just rewards in the end. Robert Lymer, Belmont
