Williams ready to entertain you

- ROWAN FORSTER

GEELONG’S reputation as a booming music hub is set to be bolstered by the arrival of global superstar Robbie Williams.

Williams will rock Mount Duneed Estate on March 3 in a rare one-night-only performance for A Day on the Green.

Ticket sales are expected to sell out quickly when listed on Ticketmaster next Thursday.

Promoter Michael Newton says it will be the most groundbreaking act to ever grace Geelong.

“I know all the accommodation will be booked out — even as far as the coast — for this event,” he said.

“We’re really proud that we’ve opened up a whole avenue of world-class artists to play in Geelong.

“We’ve put on a lot of big acts down there and this could surpass them all. Robbie Williams is an incredible entertainer and he’s bringing his Agame to Geelong.”

Organisers hope to match the previous Mt Duneed Es- tate attendance record of 18,000, set by Fleetwood Mac in 2015.

Mr Newton said traffic near Waurn Ponds would not be severely impacted by the event.

“While it is a huge undertaking, the venue has been making improvements to traffic, roads and infrastructure,” he said.

“We’re ready and it’s going to be a massive day.”

Williams will join other top artists to have performed at A Day on the Green, including Elton John, Sting and Paul Simon.

He will be supported by two other acts still to be revealed.

Mr Newton believes the event will inject “several million” into Geelong’s economy.

“We don’t have exact figures, but we can say it would be in the millions,” he said.

“It’s a testament to the area with the success we’ve had.”

Pop phenomenon Williams last toured Australia in 2015, when he wowed audiences with his Let Me Entertain You tour.

Ticket prices range from $110 to $260 per person.
