WELL-HEELED AGENTS STEP OUT TO HELP

- PETER FARAGO

AFTER five years, most real estate agents would have traded in many pairs of shoes, but these ones continued to don the same pair for a special event each September.

The Harcourts agents from North Geelong will join 2017 Young Australian of the Year finalist, Tarang Chawla, and domestic violence survivor Simone O’Brien for the fifth annual Walk a Mile in their Shoes campaign in Melbourne today.

Hundreds of men and women have proudly walked in high heels since the campaign came to Australia in 2013 and has collectively raised more than $260,000 for White Ribbon Australia.

Today’s walk along Southbank leaves from the red steps at Queensbridge Square to Birrarung Marr.

Harcourts North Geelong director Joe Grgic said cramming his toes into a tight pair of heels was a small price to pay to help change community attitudes towards domestic violence.

The campaign hopes to raise $100,000 this September.

Mr Grgic said the fundraising supports the Breaking the Silence program, which supports schools to bring about a commitment to stop violence against women by building on existing initiatives to strengthen a culture of respect and equality at all levels.
