Foreign debut for pasta maker
LOCAL pasta maker Otway Pasta Company has made a fresh leap into the export market with its first international order coming all the way from Singapore.
Otway Pasta Company began as a passion project for Colac stay-at-home dad Steve Robinson and has grown rapidly.
Originally a vehicle to provide a nutritious and swift meal option for his young family, Otway Pasta was now on the shelves of many provedores and independent grocers in Victoria, South Australia and would now debut in Singapore, Mr Robinson said.
Gourmet food store The Fishwives is now the first international stockist of the fresh pasta, which owner and expat Rebecca Forwood said would be one of the only fresh pasta products available in Singapore.
“I was in Melbourne on holiday and bought Otway Pasta Company pasta from the local grocer,” Ms Forwood said.
“My kids said it was the best pasta they had ever tried, so we bought it a few more times and then I thought we can’t live without this, I need to sell it in my shop in Singapore.
“I love the story behind Otway Pasta Company. The fact that it’s not a big conglomerate; that the product is made with good quality ingredients and the packaging is simple but sophisticated.”
Mr Robinson said he would now set his sights on further export markets, such as Hong Kong, but promised to retain the sourcing of local ingredients.
“It is humbling to think that a few years ago Otway Pasta Company was just an idea, I would never have believed we would now be exporting our pasta,” he said.
“It’s been a fantastic journey and I’m really looking forward to seeing what the future holds.”
