Bews form to seal a deal
GEELONG defender Jed Bews is close to putting pen to paper on a new deal which will see him stay at Simonds Stadium.
The 23-year-old is out of contract come the end of the season, but said talks have been positive with the club in regards to a new contract.
“It’s close, very close,” Bews said.
“I’m not all that concerned about it. It will happen in the next few weeks, I am sure.
“We are working out the fine details.”
The Cats are slowly working their way through their long list of unsigned stars.
Rising stars Jake Kolodjashnij, Nakia Cockatoo, Brandan Parfitt and James Parsons have all recommitted to the club, while the Cats have also locked away Sam Menegola.
Stars Steven Motlop and Daniel Menzel also remain out of contract, while Tom Ruggles is another senior name yet to be signed back up.
For Bews, a new deal would be the ultimate reward for his good form in 2017.
He has been a crucial part of Geelong’s defensive unit since returning to the team in Round 6.
Not only has he done the job on some of the competition’s most dangerous small forwards, but he has also offered more going the other way than in previous seasons.
“I’d love to be playing good all the time. Hopefully this year was a taste of what’s to come,” Bews said.
