AMMOS’ GRANDEST DAY OF ALL

- DAMIEN RACTLIFFE THE POWERHOUSE

GEELONG Amateur A-grade netball coach Ash Salter says the club will celebrate hard tonight regardless of results.

All four of Ammos’ senior teams will play in grand finals today after each finished on top of their respective competitions.

The D-grade grand final will kick off at Drysdale at 11am, followed by C-grade at 12.15pm, B-grade at 1.30pm and A-grade at 3pm. The club also has grand final teams at under-15 and under-13 level.

Salter said it would be a long day for Ammos fans, but they wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Obviously it’s a big day because A-grade don’t play until 3pm, so it’s a big day to get there for D-grade, but knowing our Ammos girls, I think all of them will be there for the day and just have that extra coffee before the game,” she quipped.

“To finish on top in all grades is amazing and it’s a testament to all the hard work, from the coaches, the volunteers, all our netball committee as well as the players. We couldn’t be happier.

“Whatever happens, the celebrations over the weekend will be about a successful season, not just about winning grand finals.”

Salter said the success of all four sides had made bringing players up from B-grade an easier task.

“We’ve certainly been focusing on the same kind of structure and netball plan,” she said.

“The aim was for all grades, from A-grade down to Dgrade, to be doing the same thing — pretty simple stuff so everyone could do it.

“Certainly that’s helped players stepping up to A-grade with a bit more ease and it’s great experience for those Bgraders that can do that as well.”

Unity on the coaching front has been key to their success.

“The start of preseason we all caught up and had a chat about our netball philosophy and what we wanted to achieve for the year,” Salter said.

“We carried that through the season, chatting regularly, catching up, discussing different skills or drills and making sure we can learn off each other, which I think has helped us with the success this year.”

The Ammos are also in senior, reserve and Division 2 colts football grand finals today.
