Drysdale girls break through

- WILL HOGAN

DRYSDALE has celebrated a successful netball season by winning the under-15 and under-17 Division 1 grand finals.

The winning teams capped strong performances throughout the year to comfortably win their finals.

Both teams had also experi- enced a number of years reaching the finals without making the grand final, making the victories even more special.

The under-15s enjoyed a 31-23 victory over Barwon Heads, with Maddison Connally judged best on court for Drysdale.

The under-17s upset Ocean Grove 28-22, led by goal keeper Ella Mannix, who pro- duced a matching-winning performance. The Grubbers had gone through the homeand-away season undefeated.

Drysdale netball president, Alison Dumbell, commended both teams for their results and said many players would be pushing for A-grade players in the future.

“We have a really strong and talented bunch of girls, some of whom have already played at senior level,” Dumbell said.

“We have so much potential, so it’s up to us as administrators to make sure we look after them and surround them with the best coaches.”

A number of the girls are connected to Drysdale through long-time family ties, with the club hopeful it can retain them for senior action in years to come.
