Go with the Buzz, says Ling

SIX-GAME forward Wylie Buzza shapes as an x-factor for Geelong on Friday in its do-ordie semi-final against Sydney.

Buzza has only played in one losing game for the Cats since making his debut in Round 15.

He last played in Geelong’s Round 23 demolition of GWS but was dropped alongside Dan Menzel for last Friday’s final against Richmond.

Cameron Ling, who captained the Cats’ last Premiership side in 2011, is an unabashed fan and wants to see him playing on Friday.

“I like him, very much so, and I think he’s important for them. He’s done enough to come back in,” Ling said.

“He’s smart enough and good enough to take some grabs but the biggest thing he does is provide a brilliant contest up there and creates things for others. They feed off him.

“He’s mobile and ends up in the right spots. Plus he gets his hands on the footy.

“I kind of get why he missed against Richmond because of the conditions and going a bit smaller but I would think he comes back in.”

Buzza’s presence allows Tom Hawkins to play up the ground, plus he can also spend time in the ruck.

In his six games he has average nine possessions and kicked five goals, but his competitive instincts have helped smaller players into the game.

Ling also wants to see Menzel return.

“Dan Menzel missing against Richmond wasn’t why Geelong lost but he also provides an x-factor in the forward line,” he said.

“Whatever he may lack in some areas he makes up for in that sixth sense of being able to find you a goal or something special in a tight moment.

“And Nakia Cockatoo will have to be considered.

“Geelong will be better this week but how well they can respond might be determined by a very good opponent.”
