Tattooed man attempts to lure kids into car
GEELONG schools are on alert as police investigate multiple reports of a lone man attempting to lure students into his car.
Staff from a number of Geelong schools made reports to the Department of Education this week after a man was seen approaching students.
The Geelong Advertiser understands staff from Roslyn Primary School, Clonard Catholic College and Belmont High School reported a man with a face tattoo had attempted to hand out cigarettes to students and offered to give them a ride in his car.
A departmental spokesman confirmed the reports and said staff at schools in surrounding areas had been notified of the incidents.
“Schools nearby have been informed and staff have been asked to be extra-vigilant,” he said.
“The department is working closely with the schools involved and will continue to monitor the situation.”
The incident has been referred to Geelong Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team, which has amped up its surveillance around schools.
Geelong SOCIT Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Miller said police were continuing to investigate the reports.
“We are aware of the allegations and are investigating,” Senior Sergeant Miller said.
If you see someone acting suspiciously around schools you should call 000.
