GEELONG region’s newest football club, Armstrong United FC, this week launched a new logo, fielded its first team in the Barwon Soccer Club’s social seven-aside end of season comp and submitted its official registration to affiliate with Football Federation Victoria.

Their logo, designed by inaugural committee member Faith Johnstone, incorporates the club’s colours of orange and blue as well as the Pelican emblem.

Work on a $3 million sports pavilion at the neighbouring Warralily Village is expected to begin soon.

Plans for the complex, which will cater for a range of new sports clubs in the growth region, have been released by City of Greater Geelong.

It will include a social room with a kitchen and bar, four changerooms, umpires rooms, meeting spaces and association administration facilities. The council set aside $1.9 million for the project in its 2016-17 budget.

The sports pavilion will be opposite a planned education precinct, which will host a prep to Year 12 school, specialist school and integrated children’s centre.

In the meantime, the club is likely to use the fully floodlit Sovereign Drive Reserve in the Villawood Estate as its initial home ground in 2018.

People interested in contributing to the development of this club as a committee member, volunteer or player can email armstrongunit edfc@gmail.com.
