Two arrested after crime spree

A HIGH number of thefts follow on from the previous weekend when more than 50 incidents were reported.

Over one night this week, there were 22 incidents in Highton and a further four in Belmont.

Another three occurred in Highton over the following days.

Eight reports involved attempted thefts only, and in many cases the thieves smashed a window to enter the vehicle. In a similar number of cases, no visible force was identified. Police have arrested two offenders over the incidents.

Other multiple thefts were recorded in Geelong, Norlane/Corio, Bell Park, Lara, Colac and Whittingto­n.

Eleven incidents involved the theft of number plates. place from Thursday to Saturday.

Thieves targeted sheds or garages on five occasions. A holiday home and a farm building were also hit.

Six crimes involved entry via unlocked doors or windows. Items stolen included building and power tools, jewellery, audio equipment and household electrical items.
