MOLLY’S BREAKTHROUGH CALL
FORMER Kardinia International College student Molly Strano was frantically rescheduling her life last night after an unexpected recall to the Australian squad for Friday’s Ashes Twenty20 match in Sydney.
The 25-year-old Victorian had to organise time off from her job at the Australian Cricketers’ Association and dump her mates — who were expecting her to be behind the barbecue on Saturday night — all in the name of representing her country.
Strano, who captained a Cricket Australia XI against England this month, made her debut for Australia in a T20 series against New Zealand in February and has been honing her off-spin and batting in a bid to become a first-choice all-rounder.
“I had to quickly run into work today and cancel all of my shifts for the next two weeks,” she said yesterday. “I was meant to host a barbecue at my club on Saturday night, too, so I’ve had to can that.”
