‘Gades shrug off ill luck

-

HARD-HITTING opener Sophie Molineux is confident the Melbourne Renegades can put the disappointment of a controversial loss behind them when they prepare for this weekend’s WBBL double header.

Molineux revealed her teammates were quick to move on from last weekend’s record-breaking defeat to Sydney Thunder at North Sydney Oval, where star Jess Duffin was unlucky to be dismissed when the ’Gades were on the cusp of victory.

“It’s disappointing to start of the season with a loss,” Molineux said.

“We got off the ground and we were quite down for two or three minutes, but then we realised how special that game of cricket was.

“To have almost 400 runs made in a game of T20 cricket was spe- Peel and David Grigg — play in the same Bellarine Peninsula Cricket Association A Grade clash.

Bill Peel is a famous face at Inverleigh, having captained the 1957-58 premiership team.

Barrabool rained on Inverleigh’s parade, dismissing the Rosellas for 130 before cruising to 186.

Duffin crunched 81 from 47 balls and put the Renegades within striking distance of the Thunder’s 6-200.

But a catch from Lisa Griffith brought a halt to Duffin’s innings, despite replays showing the ball hit the turf. “It is what it is,” Molineux said. “Cricket is a funny game and some things go your way and some things don’t. Hopefully later in the season calls like that go our way.”

Molineux was confident her team would bounce back against the Adelaide Strikers in Glenelg on Saturday and Sunday.

“There’s a few things we can work on with bowling, but with the batting, we’ve come out of it really confident,” she said.

Joining her teammates for a training session at Geelong Cricket Ground yesterday, Molineux lauded the facilities. “It’s incredible. It’s a WBBL standard ground,” she said.

The Renegades’ WBBL and BBL teams will play a double header against the Thunder at GMHBA Stadium on January 3.
