BOTH SEXES HAVE ROLE IN UNWANTED ATTENTION

-

THE lopsided stance taken by Dr Ben Rossiter, from Victoria Walks ( GA, 9/12), needs to be challenged.

Ben, we need to have a man to man. Yes, walking is good exercise for both sexes.

It’s disappointing, however, that you perpetuate the politically correct line that one sex is totally innocent and the other sex is totally culpable.

No one condones unwanted sexual attention.

However, it’s another thing to take a jaundiced view of sexual politics.

I see many females — of all ages — jogging or walking their pets often in bright skin-hugging Lycra.

Since Adam was a boy, sexual attraction has always existed.

Without men taking some sort of passing interest in women, none of us would be here.

Surely a distinction must be made between giving what is perceived as a compliment by way of “honking your horn”, and overstepping the mark?

In my experience, many women don’t mind this sort of attention providing it’s done in good grace.

It’s getting to the stage of being ridiculous when young men find it hard to know how to relate to young women — given females are treated as very vulnerable and that only men need to modify their behaviour.

As for objectifying women, a good place to start would be the curtailing of ads in women’s magazines which promote the body beautiful. Alan Barron, Grovedale
