Trio in 160km/h chase
POLICE are amazed three teens are still alive after crashing a stolen car going more than 100km/h on a residential street in Thomson after an alleged burglary spree and police pursuit.
Victoria Police’s dog squad unit helped arrest the underage trio after they reached speeds of up to 160km/h in a 60km/h zone before fleeing the crashed stolen car on St Albans Rd, about 2.30am Saturday.
Sergeant Steve Taylor said a 17-year-old male was in custody facing a string of serious charges, while two girls had been interviewed and released pending further police investigations.
“The 17-year-old has been charged with the theft of three separate vehicles, one in Traralgon which was found in Geelong, and a white Corolla stolen during an aggravated burglary in Rodbrough Cres (Corio) that was found dumped in Separation St in North Geelong,” investigators from the High Volume Crime Team said.
“He’s also been charged over a burglary in Torbreck St (Corio), where money and a safe was stolen and the theft of a green Ford Falcon stolen from Skene St in Newtown and later involved in the pursuit.
“He’s been on a bit of a crime spree since the start of January.”
The 17-year-old male has been remanded in custody after being charged with reckless conduct endangering persons, aggravated burglary, theft and driving related charges.
He’s set to face a children’s court today.
