Ox ruled out of World Cup
ENGLAND midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out of the World Cup after injuring a knee in Liverpool’s Champions League semi-final win against Roma.
Oxlade-Chamberlain (pictured) was carried off in the 18th minute of the first leg at Anfield on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old midfielder was assessed yesterday and Liverpool said he would not return to full fitness until next season.
Not only will he potentially miss the Champions League final but he is also out of the World Cup in Russia, two years after being ruled out of the European Championship with a knee injury.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has become an established member of England coach Gareth Southgate’s squad after settling well at Liverpool following his move from Arsenal in last September’s transfer window.
