FRAUD LINK TO BOMBER HOUSE RAID

COURT HEARS DODGY DOCUMENT CLAIMS

- RUSTY WOODGER

FRESH details have emerged about an alleged fraudster linked to the investigation that led to a drug raid on Mark “Bomber” Thompson’s home.

Highton man Andrew Ng is accused of creating false documents that were used to dupe various government bodies, including VicRoads and Centrelink.

Police allege the 29-yearold also made fake medical certificates to help Karl “Bang Bang” Holt avoid jail last year.

Mr Ng appeared briefly via videolink in Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

He is facing more than 90 deception-related charges, including perverting the course of justice and 74 counts of making a false document.

He has been in custody since his arrest on January 24, three weeks after police allegedly found drugs in a car Mr Holt was driving in Corio.

The intercept led to a raid on Mr Thompson’s home in Port Melbourne — however the link between the events remains unclear.

Three fraudulent doctor’s letters were among the evidence police say they seized from Mr Holt’s car.

In documents obtained by the Geelong Advertiser, it can be revealed Mr Ng allegedly: HELPED Karl Holt be placed on a community corrections order last December through fake documents he made. FORGED certificates purporting to be from the Magistrates’ Court and a drink driving program, enabling a suspended driver to regain her licence. RECEIVED Centrelink payments after providing the agency fake medical documents that claimed he was unfit to look for work. CONVINCED four banks to issue him credit cards on false pretences. USED those cards to withdraw $3000 cash and spend more than $1000 at stores including Bunnings and Coles, and a Highton veterinary clinic.

A court hearing in Janu- ary was told fraudulent pay sheets, phones and Visa cards were uncovered in a search of Mr Ng’s home.

Police also seized keys, a USB stick and a laptop.

Mr Ng was not represented by a lawyer during yesterday’s hearing.

However, a prosecutor told the court the case was close to being resolved.

Mr Ng made no application for bail and was remanded to return to court next month.

Mr Holt has been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice and using a false document, along with drugs and weapon offences.

He is in custody and will return to court in July.

Mr Thompson, a flagwinning Geelong coach and Essendon premiership player, was interviewed by police after the raid on his home but has not been charged.

A man living at the home, Thomas Windsor, 28, is facing 10 charges including counts of trafficking commercial quantities of amphetamine and ice, as well as trafficking ecstasy.
