Scooter fails to come up

Thurlow given a go

-

GEELONG midfielder Scott Selwood will miss today’s clash with Sydney after being withdrawn from the Cats squad late last night.

Selwood, who copped a hit to the head from Port Adelaide’s Lindsay Thomas last week, has been replaced by Jackson Thurlow.

Zac Smith has been added to Geelong’s emergency list.

In other news Dylan Roberton’s AFL future remains unclear as the St Kilda defender continues to have tests.

Roberton had a surgical procedure to assess his heart on Wednesday, after his dramatic on-field collapse during the Round 4 loss to Geelong.

“We hope he’s back sooner rather than later, but it’s still in the hands of the experts,” coach Alan Richardson said.

At Hawthorn, Alastair Clarkson says he has a clip behind the ear ready for James Sicily but it sounds like he might have delivered it — and taken aim at Cameron Zurhaar on the way through as well.

The Hawthorn coach has slapped down Sicily’s latest indiscretion as “just silly, stupid, unnecessary”.

The defender will miss today’s match against St Kilda in Launceston after copping a one-match ban for stepping on the leg of North Melbourne’s Shaun Atley while he was facedown on the ground.

But Clarkson has also taken a thinly veiled swipe at Zurhaar, who escaped suspension for bumping Hawthorn’s David Mirra.

The North player was fined $2000 for rough conduct after he sent Mirra crashing into the Etihad Stadium fence.

“(Sicily’s incident) is no concern in terms of the severity of the act,” the coach said.

“There are much more serious things in terms of throwing blokes into fences and that sort of stuff that are significantly dangerous.”

Sicily was referred to the tribunal for serious misconduct after sneaking a look to make sure the umpire was not watching and then standing on Atley.

It is his second ban this season.

Sicily said he had to eradicate poor discipline from his game but added Clarkson and Hawks football manager Graham Wright had his back.
