Top-earning postcodes
ONE of Victoria’s lowest-income postcodes is located deep in the heart of the Otways while central Geelong takes the region’s top billing, new figures show.
Rural districts such as Beech Forrest, Weeaproinah and Yuulong are represented by the 3237 postcode, which data released by the Australian Taxation Office reveals as having an average taxable income of $24,641.
While lower than the minimum wage per annum, it is not Victoria’s lowest earning postcode with the area covering Watchem, near the Wimmera town of Donald, garnering $15,411.
Central Geelong, Newtown and South Geelong have the region’s highest average taxable income ($77,662) followed by the postcode covering the Anakie, Barrabool and Ceres districts on $66,742.
Millionaire hot spots Portsea, Toorak and Hawksburn have remained stubbornly at the top of the tax league tables.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s postcode is the wealthiest in the country, with taxpayers in the Sydney harbourside suburbs of Darling Point and Point Piper, filing an average taxable income of $192,500.
Meanwhile, medical professions dominated the highestearning occupations.
Surgeons averaged taxable incomes of $393,467, anaesthetists $359,056, internal medicine specialists $291,140 and psychiatrists at $211,024.
