Speeding driver had no licence
A DISQUALIFIED driver was “just being a d---head” when he borrowed his mate’s car and drove double the speed limit down a Norlane road.
Isaac Mrkogaca-Marks appeared via video link in the Geelong Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with three driving offences.
Mrkogaca-Marks, who is currently serving a minimum two-year and nine-month term for an armed robbery, pleaded guilty to the offences.
Mrkogaca-Marks was driving a brown Ford Falcon down Thompson Rd, Norlane just before 10pm on April 28 last year when he was detected speeding, the court heard.
He was clocked at 104km/h in a 50km/h zone and was consequently pulled over by police.
There, police discovered Mrkogaca-Marks’ licence was suspended for four years.
Asked why he was driving, Mrkogaca-Marks told police he thought the suspension was only for four months not four years, the court heard.
Asked why he was speeding, he replied, “I was just being a d---head.”
Mrkogaca-Marks’ car was immediately impounded and he was ordered to pay a $994 impoundment notice.
Less than two months later, on June 14, Mrkogaca-Marks was again pulled over by police on Mount Pleasant Rd, Highton.
His licence was still suspended and he was charged with driving while disqualified.
Magistrate Peter Mellas sentenced Mrkogaca-Marks to six months in jail to be served concurrently with his current sentence.
Mr Mellas said the purpose of jailing Mrkogaca-Marks was to get him off the road and he was satisfied the concurrent sentence would achieve this.
