Humiliation for Harvey’s wife

-

THE estranged wife of disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein was left “so humiliated and so broken” by the sex abuse claims against him she did not go out in public for five months.

In her first interview since allegations of rape and sexual assault were made in October, British fashion designer Georgina Chapman said she was so shocked she struggled to keep food down and lost 4.5kg in five days.

Chapman, 42, said she was “never” suspicious about Weinstein’s behaviour and the Oscarwinning producer, 66, had been a “wonderful husband” and father to their children India, 7, and Dashiell, 5.

Chapman, who has filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, told American Vogue, “I was so humiliated and so broken ... that ... I, I, I ... didn’t think it was respectful to go out. I thought, ‘Who am I to be parading around with all of this going on?’ It’s still so very, very raw.”

Chapman said the first revelations were “about a time long before I’d ever met him”.

“And then the stories expanded and I realised that this wasn’t an isolated incident. And I knew that I needed to step away and take the kids,” she said.

Chapman co-owns fashion label Marchesa, whose dresses have been worn by stars such as Lily James and Eva Longoria.

Asked if the couple had had a good marriage, she said, “That’s what makes this so incredibly painful: I had what I thought was a very happy marriage.”

Weinstein, once said to be worth $450 million, has been at a rehab clinic in Arizona since the scandal broke. He has denied all claims of non-consensual sex.
