Birthday bash by Corio dad

- RUSTY WOODGER

A CORIO dad forced his way into a home and bashed a man after getting drunk at his son’s fifth birthday party.

Bryan Scouller faced Geelong County Court yesterday where he pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and recklessly causing injury.

Shortly after midnight on March 12 last year, the 23year-old and three other men headed for the victim’s home in Norlane.

The court heard the man had been in a relationship with the sister of Scouller’s partner and that a dispute involving several families had been brewing for months.

When the group of men arrived at the home, they smashed a window before attacking the victim when he opened his front door.

It is alleged a relative of Scouller’s was alongside the father of three as he punched and kicked the victim in the head for around one minute. The group soon fled, leaving the victim on the floor in pain with multiple cuts and bruises.

Scouller was arrested two months later and initially denied the allegations.

Defence lawyer Michael Brugman said Scouller was “ashamed” of his behaviour, but argued he was not the instigator.

Mr Brugman said the incident was unplanned and came after Scouller and the co-accused man had been drinking together at a fifth birthday party. He said the incident was out of character and that Scouller had good prospects for rehabilitation.

Scouller and the co-accused will return to court next week.
