Coach lashes approach

Lady Supercats lament the number of turnovers

- WILL HOGAN

LADY Supercats coach David Herbert says his side needs to find quick solutions to turn their season around after a 66-76 loss to the Dandenong Rangers at The Arena last night.

The Lady Supercats spent majority of the game playing catch up after trailing 30-42 at the main break despite three long-range jumpers from Isa Brancatisano.

A high number of turnovers was the major issue for the Lady Supercats, conceding 11 in the first half and 18 for the game.

Herbert said his players struggled once the Rangers started to get on a scoring run.

“We probably played only five minutes of the entire game as hard as we could,” the coach said.

“The minute there was scoreboard pressure on us we collapsed in a heap.

“What is disappointing is the lackadaisical approach to training, the lackadaisical approach to the game — it’s like we’re just expecting other people to step up when it’s got to be a collective.

“Nothing is working so you have to change things up.

We just have to solutions.”

An Ebony Rolph jumpshot late in the game put the Lady Supercats within six points but a collection of late turnovers hindered any chance of mounting a comeback.

“I admire the way we came back in the fourth find quarter but then it was just turnover-city,” Herbert said.

Brancatisano starred once again with 24 points including five from seven from the three-point line while Daniela Wallen was productive off the bench with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

In the other match of the night, the Geelong Supercats were too good for Dandenong as they ran out sound winners in a 99-73 victory.

The Supercats got on an early scoring run,

The margin was sustained for the rest of game with the Supercats flexing their muscle late, scoring 32 points in the last quarter.

The in-form Nathan Herbert again provided some individual brilliance scoring 32 points including an impressive eight threepointers in a match-winning performance.

Imports DeMarcus Gatlin and John Davis scored 18 and 14 points respectively with Dandenong unable to contain the offensive proficiency of the Supercats.

Both teams turn their attention to their second match of this weekend’s double-header with a road trip to Albury-Wodonga tomorrow night.
