PLANS for a $20 million accommodation development on the Surf Coast have been revealed.

Australian based developers World Class Capital have submitted a planning application to the Surf Coast Shire detailing their intention to establish a 35-appartment hotel in Lorne.

The proposed site at 14-16 Ocean Road South currently houses a single storey weatherboard house and tennis court which would be demolished to make way for a multi-level “residential hotel” above a basement car park.

The 3400 sqm site, which boasts views over Loutit Bay and Lorne Pier, has proximity to key tourist destinations including the Heritage Trail, Grand Pacific Hotel and the town centre.

The proposed development comprises two separate buildings.

A lower level dwelling to the front of the site includes an entrance lobby and guest only cafe, library and kitchen on the ‘ground floor’ with hotel rooms above.

The upper level building to the rear of the site will comprise serviced apartments — each with a private balcony — and the manager’s residence.

Overall the facility will pro- vide a total of 35 serviced apartments, 25 of which are one-bedroom, nine two-bedroom and one three-bedroom.

The facility will provide 37 on site car spaces which allows for one space for each apartment plus two spaces for staff.

The neighbouring property to the north of the site, 10 Ocean Road, forms part of the Grand Pacific Lorne tourist accommodation.

The architect’s statement suggests the buildings will be designed with the surrounding environment and location in mind, using materials with an “earthy aesthetic”.

The plans are available to view via the Surf Coast Shire until June 11.
